Andrew has written three fantasy novels, which have been published by Omnibus Books, an imprint of Scholastic Australia. With My Knife, Dragonfox and The Red Dragon have a wide appeal among younger readers, from children aged 9 to teenages aged 15, with schools having reading sets for upper primary school students and lower high school students. This wide apeal may be due to the fact that the novels are written to a high literary standard and are intended for all readers of fantasy. Perhaps they belong to the category of books to which CS Lewis alluded in his essay “On Stories”:
No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally (and often far more) worth reading at the age of fifty—except, of course, books of information. The only imaginative works we ought to grow out of are those which it would probably have been better not to have read at all. A mature palate will probably not care much for crème de menthe: but it ought still to enjoy bread and butter and honey.
Andrew has written fifty short stories that have been published in various literary magazines and newspapers and broadcast by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and the British Broadcasting Corporation. Some of these stories have been collected in two books, The Bowgada Birds and The Dispossessed.
